Military Liaison Component Prizren

Prizren, Kosovo July 6 and 7, 2002


On July 6th, 2002, Ltc Peter Christensen and I drove down the "Boot Leg" of Kosovo to near the borders with Albania and Macedonia. The left photo is a portion of the road traveling south and the center photo is of the hills still 7 km (4 miles) north of the borders.

Right photo is of a barn in a village we passed through on the road down the "boot leg". There is a rack of cow manure on the barn. The manure is being dried so it can be used as heating fuel in the winter.


On July 7th, I drove up the Zupa Valley, which is a high mountain valley near the border with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The entrance of this valley had a castle guarding the entrance in the middle ages. The left photo is of the ruins of the castle and a monastary which is now located on the site.

The Right photo is of the Zupa Valley. This photo was taken from the top of the valley. The mountains in this photo are now bare of snow, compared with the photos I took in March, 2002.
